What is the difference between payload and gross vehicle mass (gvm)?
A goods vehicle is legally limited to a gross vehicle mass (gvm), the total weight allowed on the wheels. The amount of weight that a vehicle can carry (its payload) is therefore the gvm LESS the unladen weight of the vehicle. This is why a 4.5t truck with a larger loadspace actually carries less weight than a 4.5t van equivalent.
Cool Rentals has correctly weighed all its' vehicles and clearly states the payloads that can be carried by each vehicle.

What is a temperature recorder?
This device is located in the cab and records a history of temperatures for quality control. Data from today or a specified day is printed on a till roll.
Print-outs on the right and below are examples of:
* Delivery ticket (current temp only)
* Journey ticket with values
* Journey ticket with graph
Note: Cool Rental vehicles also monitor door openings which can help to identify delivery times
(see markers in left margin on Journey Ticket example).

How should I use a fridge van correctly?
Useful tips about loading the vehicle:
* Pre-chill the loadspace for approx 15 mins
* Switch the fridge unit off while loading
* Minimise time that doors are open to avoid heat & humidity
* Set the desired temp on cab control
* Ideally, product should be stored at right temp before loading
(load cases of drink the day before to achieve adequate chilling)
* Do not block evaporator air intake/outlets
* Ideally, allow space around the product for air circulation
60 to 80mm in front of load
200mm from top of load to roof
50mm between floor and load (eg on a pallet)
* Close doors asap after loading
* Make sure no-one in shut inside
* Check the load temp regularly
(displayed on the fridge control & temp recorder)
WHEN RUNNING FROM 15A ELECTRICS:
* Switch vehicle engine off
* Switch cab control off before connecting mains lead
* Avoid extension leads which can blow fuses
BEFORE REPORTING A FRIDGE FAULT, PLEASE CHECK:
* The set temp on the fridge control is correct
* If on electric, check mains supply/trip & fuse in plug

Does the vehicle engine have to be running for the fridge to work?
|
|
No, all our fridge vans have "electric standby". We supply them with a cable that can be plugged into 15A domestic mains electricity. This is ideal when the van needs to be parked while loaded, overnight or during a catering event.
By contrast, the refrigeration on our heavy trucks is powered by a separate engine (like a built-in generator) which draws from the main diesel tank. In a static position, a full tank may last 4 or more days before a refill is required. Alternatively, they can be run on electric but require a 32A 3-phase industrial supply.
